About the Formartine Partnership Ltd

Our history

The Formartine Partnership was formed as a Local Rural Partnership in 1997. Between 2001-5, the Partnership completed the pioneering Ythan Project, involving the local community and farmers in restoring and enhancing the river Ythan and its catchment, funded by the European LIFE Environment Fund.

In April 2006 the Local Rural Partnership became a Company limited by Guarantee, Formartine Partnership Ltd, (Company registration number: SC 301273), with voluntary Directors and a range of member groups from the Formartine Area, including all twelve Community Councils. Its purpose was to support and advise Formartine-based voluntary Community Groups with governance issues and funding applications, and Formartine communities to carry out community engagement exercises. It was not a registered charity.

Formartine Renewable Energy LLP

In 2011 the Formartine Partnership Ltd was generously offered a chance to distribute Community Benefit from wind turbines in the Arnage area.

In 2012, the Formartine Renewable Energy LLP (SO303757) was established as a joint venture between The Formartine Partnership Ltd. (SC301273) (20%) & Cardinghill Renewables Ltd. (SC405702) (80%), a subsidiary of CLOFFRICKFORD RENEWABLE ENERGY COMPANY LIMITED (SC419022) to develop the project.

In 2016, after a long campaign, the now single turbine at Cairnadailly started to produce electricity for the first time.

The income generated by the Formartine Partnership’s 20% share is to be distributed to the communities of Formartine through a grant scheme.

In 2019 the Formartine Rural Partnership SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation SC049617) was established to distribute the income from turbine and to take on the day to day charitable responsibilities of the Formartine Partnership Ltd.
